Artist’s Statement

My work stems from lots of observational work. Growing up in Missoula, Montana much of what I did was inspired from my interaction with nature. I often create with color palettes from memories of natural scenes, such as campsites at dusk, and logs full of beetle holes. With a background in architecture and architecture history, I am drawn to motifs of gothic cathedrals and architectural elements.

I have never stuck to one medium, I create with the things that feel good at the time. If I’m feeling more expressive and emotional I tend to go for watercolor or gouache, creating large paintings with multitudes of layers.

Welding, woodwork, and other hands on skills help me bring my obscure furniture creations to life. My work draws from my educational background, and my outdoor childhood.
